Phil Jackson

Phil Jackson has grown up around horses all his life.  As a young man, he recalls heading out horseback by the White Tanks outside of Buckeye, AZ, traveling to the weekend Penning and Sorting shows or practices with his dad and always being around horses.

Phil was able to gain experience in his new field as he worked with Matt Sargood in Texas.  He then went to work for Silverbrook Ranches, owed by Helen Groves (known as the first lady of cutting).  There he trained under Josh King.  While in Texas, Phil was able to gain some insight on training, ranching and the daily routine of training the Cutting horse from infancy to show horse.  In Texas, he began developing his unique combination of training skills and started to go to shows- which have proven to be successful whether they are working with a weekend club show horse or an award winning nationally shown horse.

Phil came back to Arizona where he began assistant training with The Cowan Ranches in Payson, AZ.  Since returning, he has trained with Ryan Else from Ryan Else Training and Tim Smith.  Training with Cowan Ranches has also provided the opportunity to show extensively in Arizona and throughout the nation.  Through his experiences with Ryan, Tim, and Cowan Ranches, he has refined his skills with working and training the Cutting horse and become an award winning showman in the local and national arena.

Phil Jackson is now ready to open up his own training facility with his own vision going forward.  The ability to understand animals, work with building horses physically and emotionally, and intuitively understanding horses is something that sets Phil Jackson apart.  Partner that instinctual ability and the great opportunity to learn from some of who he considers the best in his field, work with some great horses, and learn a lot about the sport of cutting makes him a unique trainer who has taken the best from all his experience to create his own program.  He believes that no matter the level of rider the experience of cutting should be enjoyable for the rider and free from judgement and negative comments and feelings.  The training experience with Phil consists of individualized training goals and programs based on each rider and the horse's potential, strengths and weaknesses in a honest and straight forward way.  When giving lessons, he believes that people need things broken down in a way that they can understand, so the lessons make sense and peopleunderstand what to do and why.

Furthermore, Phil boasts that he does not want more than 10-12 horses in training at a time.  Keep it small, focused, and individualized so that his clients and horses can really be pushed and closely monitored so they can exceed all goals and expectations.  His idea is quality over quantity.  So, the team at Phil Jackson's Cutting Horses wants to know when are you going to call and become the rider you've always wanted to be?!
